Volunteer Walton

Walton County is a very diverse place.  We have families here from just about every country imagineable.  Everyone has time and time freely shared with your homeland, makes for a better place to live for all citizens.  My request is that you evaluate the places to give your time and put one of your talents to work for a couple of hours a week.  If everyone gave just two hours to a cause, we would all benefit.

For instance, in a church I once attended in another area of Florida, the youth had a bake sale and car wash.  Money was earned, placed into a pot and taken by some men to the local hardware store where paint, nails and boards were purchased.  A local group that worked with aging clients gave addresses of clients who needed something fixed, or debris cleared, yards mowed.  On a given day we all (every man, woman and child showed up) we were divided into groups and given an address and were to report back at the church for dinner.  Some of the older church ladies prepared a meal for those of us who worked that day.  We brought our own drinks and snacks, loaded our cars with rakes and shovels, paint brushes small ladders and showed up at the addresses and worked together in large groups to fix up a home.  By the end of the day, ten homes had been fixed up, painted and yards cleaned.  It was the best feeling ever as we all had fun doing it, fun chatting through our day and making friends with the elderly folks.  While I realized that this scenario involved a large church with the common goal of helping elderly, this could be extended to help generally.

Maybe you like to run a few times a week to stay in shape.  Maybe you go to the gym or maybe you like the arm chair exercise of your fingers on the remote control buttons.  The point is that we all have time that we could give.  As a group, Walton county does not need to have any rough looking areas.  This county has a rich heritage.  Our ancestors took care to leave behind such a beautiful place.  Let's embrace it and start looking at ways to leave it behind nicer than we find it now.

Below are only suggestions:

Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance

The Matrix DeFuniak Springs  Currently needs a refriderator for their establishment on the corner of highway 90 and highway 83.  If you have one to donate please contact them directly.  They do much good in Walton County helping those who are in need.

Cultural Art Alliance of Walton County  Currently accepting all volunteers to help with the upcoming Songwriters Workshops (hooks, lines, and singers)  They have a great lineup for artists to show their talent but will need a lot of help making this even happen.
